It sends a shiver down my spine how women are now to be blamed for every rape occurrence in the nation. In a world where the female fraternity is gaining power (finally) over men, such stories just shackle down all that’s built. Yes, they maybe the weaker race, but that doesn’t mean they are blamed for such episodes!
The Delhi police have just turned empty hands, and they generalize by quoting
“She asked for it.
It’s all about money.
They have made it a business.
It is consensual most of the time.”
Instead of blaming the women folk to not dress provocatively, or not to drink, teach the men some manners. And the lesson must be taught in such a way that nothing of this sort ever repeats again. The way this case of the 23 year old rape victim continues, we are just going to witness the repetition of Aruna Shenbaug’s life story. It’s not going to be long before the media goes frenzy about a more important story that might come and this rape story will become history.
Residents of major metros in India, are becoming more and more sophisticated each day. There may not be one household where women don’t work. Putting a curfew on working women’s timings is not the solution. Instead of holding women responsible for this, the police system should be scrutinized.
The way a rape victim is handled in India is outrageous. A rape victim’s identity should never be revealed. But is that what actually happens? She is humiliated right from the beginning of the investigation. She is to describe each and every happening in detail in front of an open court room. She has no life after all the case investigations. Finally, she will also have to put up with the fact that her tormentors have been set free. Her life after the gruesome incident will be made worse. India is said to have excellent law to deal with crimes against women, but the implementers of the law, the police are so numb and insensitive towards dealing with such cases.
Unless the law and order is maintained more stronger, such offences cannot be avoided. One of the biggest loopholes in the police system is policemen who are prejudiced towards women and more particularly, rape victims. The final conclusion drawn is that, “she wanted it”. Policemen with a 19th century mind set will never be able to put a full stop to such horrid episodes. It’s probably time we take law in our hands.
A must read. Describes the life of a mother living in a dungeon with her little son.
She bears all the suffering and in spite of that, the love she shows towards her son, who has never seen the outside worlds except for a TV) is unconditional. Shows how every mother undergoes problems with her own life, hardly making her kids aware of them. With the little intelligence she possess, she uses her malnourished son the help them flee the steel container they have been locked into. Every mother has her own desires, it’s up to the children to understand them and act accordingly.
Open the newspaper and every page is freshly filled with the classics, scams, frauds, etc. Stories with accurate facts and figures to put the man (I can non hesitantly say women too, I guess!) behind all the mess to dry. But come Republic day, we all unite and exert patriotism in each and every activity!
Yes, we blame each other, we kill each other, but when its time to enjoy what our forefathers have presented us with, the freedom, we celebrate together. What a contrast! But that’s where the sense of Indian unity lies (sigh).
The parliament had been divided on the FDI motion. An already wobbly economy is what the nation holds. With activists on one side tearing their throats down to fight for the artisan’s meal-a- day, the motion is passed, to give the already obese politicians more chances to steal.
Not to forget, I just witnessed a national day celebration in a foreign country. Here, car horns replace our huge trumpets, traffic replaces the warmth filled military parades. Flag hoisting is not a tradition, just another display of money power.
Maybe we expect a lot more from our country. Let’s be content that we don’t have to celebrate independence day like that. Let’s just take up responsibility to close all the loopholes in the age-old red taped system. Wake up India!
A walk down the pavement on Eliot’s beach on a Friday evening will prove to you the increase in the number of photography enthusiasts in Chennai. The big, bulky camera hung down their chest captures the very soul of his. The way they look at something, the way they infer something is quite different from the common man. A game of creativity, photography is a profession of its own.
Nowadays, photography seems more like profession - by - choice. Flaunting a DSLR is a status symbol and whether you know the technicalities of a picture or no, it’s the trend. With Facebook being adorned by numerous photography pages, it is fast becoming a bandwagon phenomenon. Photography seminars, workshops were unheard of, a few years back. But now, we can expect an entry fee from Rs 35,000 for just a two hour lecture!
How people look at photography is more different. Having zero knowledge in photography, one cannot appreciate it. Whereas there are some who are keen on improving their knowledge in this field and everything they look at, is ‘photographic’. As long as there are morons who want to brandish their money -power, the camera business will be a blossoming one!
When I was in school, learning about the germination of a seed to a plant was the most astonishing chapter. It still is. The nurturing and growth of plant or a human is more or less similar. The care to be taken to bring out the fruit is nonetheless painful. The love of a parent to their child is something words cannot express. Everything done by them eventually has a strong effect on their kid. And this sometimes, goes unnoticed. Whether the child takes the right or the wrong path, however depends on the parenting.
3 suggestions!
Dear parents,
Putting yourselves in our shoes, once in a while would definitely help. When we ourselves are undergoing some kind of peer pressure, we would be grateful if we get enough compassion from you all.
We would like it if you were more of friends, rather than parents. This would help us let you know of everything that we do, without fear and know what is right and what is wrong.
Let us choose what is right for us. If it is wrong, we will learn our lesson. This strikes us much better than being constrained by someone.
Many a battles fought, many a people lost, for us to celebrate this day with pride. A country with an unbreakable backbone of culture and heritage was overruled by invaders. Our leaders with their incomparable spirit and determination fought to get back our much-deserved freedom. Courage to unite and fight was all they had back then. Problems could be solved with much more ease and peace. Determination can be traced out from each and every war hero we had. In India, from mythology to reality, magnificence is the word. The ‘Golden Sparrow’, as it was referred to before colonialization, shall never fade.
The other day, I quizzed my friend; “What was the title of the famous speech presented by Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru on 15th of August, 1947 in the constituent assembly?” sadly, she didn’t know the answer. ‘Shameless Indians’ I’d openly call them! (If you didn’t know the answer either, it was called is ‘Tryst with destiny’.)
Perhaps the problem lies within the roots? At school, we are taught to shove things from paper into our heads and empty it back onto paper again. This is eventually a vicious cycle that doesn’t prepare anybody for the country, rather nothing at all. Teach us life lessons; preach ‘My experiments with truth’, teach us how we evolved, how we struggled, and how we won. Show us the path to PATRIOTISM and not just history lessons.
And we, as citizens must know and utilize all our rights the constitution has fed us with. We should break out of the shell of ignorance and open eyes to the stark reality of the nation. Learn not to be selfish and just to fatten ourselves up. Pay the taxes on time and completely so that wealth is perforated to the unfortunate. Use the knowledge we gained to earn for our land and not someone else’s. Be grateful for what you have been made into with the help of ‘Indi-genious’ brains. Feed a homeless by the roadside at least once in a lifetime. We will know the pain then. And never forget to vote. Each one of us cannot become a ‘Jawan’ to prove how patriotic we are. Employ our feelings in our daily life to prove it to the outsiders. Show them that we, Indians are more powerful prowlers than what they see freestanding.
If you don’t know what Mandal Commission is, stop calling yourself an Indian!
This is the age of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, let’s use it to the fullest and create true Indians for India. So pull your socks up and put on your headgear; this is an unruly road ahead, and the rickshaw isn’t stable yet!
Endorsing this huge banner, by the side of a busy road is the face of Saina Nehwal. Disappointing the Indians at London, she has posed so neatly for this picture, here. Not only her, we have seen Sachin and an ample number of cricketers on packaging covers of various brands. They have a lot of publicity through sports. Why do they seek more?
I thought we had enough models to pose for pictures gleefully. Probably these sports don’t pay them enough. Undoubtedly, the performance levels of the present generation sports stars have reduced. And an easier way to mint money is use their fame on banners and packets. Adidas clinches the top sports people with a crisp contract to market their products. Nike comes next. Then we have Roger Federer on the posters of Rolex, a luxury line of watches. Mayweather (wrestling pro) has been ranked number one in the Forbes lot of richest sportsmen. He even starred as the judge in ‘Dancing with the stars’. Branding and advertising is ‘the’ business today. But the consequence? Failed performances by great people at great events. Choosing actors as brand ambassadors maybe is a good choice, that’s their food. But exploiting sports people for their fame, with lucrative cash offers is like saying “Hey, stop playing, we have more fame and money in store for you!”
So, does that mean it all comes down to just Money? If that is what matters to athletes, we’d rather have much more bountiful talents deep inside the nation. Who are willing to play for the country to win, and not pose for fame.
In my opinion, the more money these people are enticed with, they will never be able to achieve to their fullest.
The smell of hard worked sweat, the power of stress, the roughness of the finger tips that have been typing the keyboards, fills the air of the road linking ‘New’ Chennai to Chennai. The road is bustling with people. The peak traffic hour is on, near Madhya Kailash. Christened the ‘New’ Chennai, this part of the city is fast developing as an IT Sector.
Bulging with fluffiness, fed-well, these IT professionals are seen squished inside a share auto. Probably I’ve failed to notice any other pivotal point of share autos, but this point does turn heads. I am not stressing on privacy or space or security here. Cheaper they may say , but how safe is the journey in a share auto?
These autos flout all the traffic rules, the drivers do not even possess a driving license. Their vehicles are usually registered in villages but they still drive around the peripheries.
According to transport experts, an auto rickshaw is capable of carrying load weighing 650 kg, of which 350 kg is a combination of its engine and the gas tank. If the number of people travelling in an auto is beyond four (including the driver), the vehicle’s weight carrying capacity goes for a toss, thus putting the lives of the passengers at risk.
Please don’t promote such activities. Definitely, you cannot stop each share auto to check for license and so on. But do the least you can, STOP ENCOURAGING THEM.
